Running The Numbers On Time

{Cherub Longing For Spring}

In my business I often tell a client that I need to "run the numbers" in order to ascertain the cost of a project. It is a pretty straight forward process and it quickly reveals whether the client is serious about going forward. In my own life, I have started to run the numbers...on time. Since the death of my parents, I weigh the value of my actions against the estimated time I have left on this planet. I find I am no longer willing to argue with the angry simpleton in the grocery store or engage in meaningless activities. That takes time I fear I don't have.

It is the larger questions that become more difficult. What do I want to spend my time doing? Do I continue to live under the structure that work requires or do I retire from work to free up more time?  Is now time to embrace personal promises and priorities and can they be accomplished while working? And the bigger question is with whom do I want to spend my time?  Calculating the answers to these questions takes thoughtful contemplation and in the end, nerve, because it takes courage to intentionally commit to a course in life.

I am working to understand the true cost of my commitments. I know that spending time with my children and grandchildren is a high value activity and I want to make sure that I am as clear about everything else I do. To gain clarity, I will run the numbers and sit quietly with my thoughts. The most valuable asset in my life is my time and I plan to use it wisely.

Hugs,
C
