Be The Light

I have a friend who can light up a room. When she shows up, she radiates positive energy and everyone around her just feels happier. I truly believe it is a physical thing with her; she is the light. I have been pondering the idea of being in the light because it seems that so many people are looking for the negative; looking for others to fail.  What drives those who are the light? Can we make the decision to be the light?

In all the world religions and cultures, light has a significant place. Whether it is a metaphor for goodness and energy or the physical rays of the sun warming the earth, being in the light is a place of goodness and beauty. Footsteps is a fellowship of light, love and support; it's a group of people who have miraculous expectations for life. I hold this belief for two reasons. First, in connection is happiness. We need others to thrive. We understand the power of community and offer love and kindness to each other, to our family and to the greater world. Second, we know that the key to being the light is that we work from the inside out. We have the power to build others up and work to do so though word and deed.

One of the wonderful things about living in New York is that I can eavesdrop on the conversations of passersby without trying. Someone said, "we are made of dust" in a way that made human beings, sound small and inconsequential. I agree we are made of dust but I believe it is stardust. The essence of our being was built upon the light; we can shine.  I am committed to being the light. I don't know that I will ever reach the point where I "light up the room" like my friend but I will work to give positive energy to those around me. How am I going to do this? One step at a time. This week I will focus on the word praise. Whenever I can I will praise another. I don't mean make up things; I mean really notice the good that others are doing and offer a word of praise. If you are up for joining me in this experience, let me know. It is always more fun to try something new with a friend.

Hugs,
